Evacuation Order:

Follow directions from your Local Authority or First Nation:

1. If you are in the area under Evacuation Order, you are at risk and must leave immediately
2. Self-register for Emergency Support Services
3. Refer to the Evacuation Order for information specific to your community
4. Monitor local information channels on the web, social media, radio and TV

Evacuation Alert:

Follow directions from your Local Authority or First Nation:

1. If you are in the area under Evacuation Alert, be ready to leave on short notice
2. Review your emergency plan and stock your grab-and-go-bag
3. Refer to the Evacuation Alert for information specific to your community
4. Monitor local information channels on the web, social media, radio and TV

Flood Watch or Warning:

Follow directions from your Local Authority or First Nation:

1. Stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks
2. Avoid recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, boating or hiking near high streamflow rivers or streams
3. Remember, high streamflows can easily trap strong swimmers, increasing risk of drowning

Definitions You Should Know

Evacuation Stages

• Evacuation Order: You are at risk. Leave the area immediately. You are encouraged to register all family members at the nearest reception centre so emergency responders know you are safe
• Evacuation Alert: Be ready to leave on short notice. This is the time to gather your grab-and-go bags and ensure your vehicle has fuel. If you leave before or during this alert, it’s called a voluntary evacuation
• Evacuation Rescinded: The threat to life and safety has passed.

Flooding Terms

• Flood Warning: River levels have exceeded capacity or will exceed it imminently, and that flooding of area adjacent to affected rivers will result
• Flood Watch: River levels are rising and will approach or may exceed capacity. Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur
• High Streamflow Advisory: River levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly. Fast-flowing bodies of water increase risk to life safety. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
